Xenon light

TECHNOLOGY
Xenon light is generated by gas discharge lamps which have a light arc in place of a filament. This is ignited between two exactly positioned electrodes and kept alight. A complicated electronic ballast is required for this process.

Astra H | Model year: from 03/2004

Opel Vectra C | Model year: from 04/02

Xenon light offers many advantages in comparison to halogen bulbs:
  • Xenon light makes contrasts more pronounced and improves coloured vision. Thus every situation can be evaluated unfiltered immediately and actions can be initiated without delay.
  • Xenon light provides almost three times the luminous flux despite significantly reduced power consumption.
  • The increased light output provides brighter and wider road illumination. Obstacles in front of vehicles and hazards at the edge of the road are recognised earlier and better.
  • The automatic headlamp levelling feature keeps the headlamp level constant - independent of load, braking and acceleration processes. This not only ensures constant illumination of the road but increases driving comfort for oncoming traffic.

Bi-Xenon® headlamps provide more light: daytime running light quality
for dipped and main beam light.

The Bi-Xenon® headlamp is a thoroughbred xenon system. It produces dipped and main beam light with a single xenon lamp. The patent secret is a movable shutter which produces the beam pattern according to requirements. In the raised position the shutter produces the cut-off prescribed for the dipped beam light. When lowered it makes way for the main beam. With bi-xenon the main beam light has the same light colour as the dipped beam. The unusually wide, intensive main beam light provides a better view on free stretches of road.
